Being Kind and Considerate
Participants are welcome to be kind, considerate, and loving to others.
It is also fine to work hard and demonstrate a positive mental attitude.
It is always the policy to reward people who show kindness, mercy, and love. These attributes are really their own reward. The most powerful form of discipline against misbehavior is to offer congratulations to those who conduct themselves rightly.
Discipline
Staff and participants must follow the policies of the Colonial Camp. Violations must be brought to the attention of the Camp Director.
Refusal to Follow Instructions
All Participants must follow the instructions of the Staff. This is for the safety and security of all Participants.
The Staff will take seriously any refusal to follow instructions and will take action to remedy the situation. This includes implementing the Discipline Policy, up to and including sending a Participant home.
Vulgarity and Obscenity
Vulgarity and obscenity will not be tolerated.
Our mission is to develop the character of young men and women in an authentic historic context. It may be permissible, socially acceptable, or even preferred in some contexts to use vulgar or obscene language. However, this type of language is not germane to the spirit of our program. This includes acronyms, veiled references, euphemisms, or other language tantamount to vulgarisms and obscenities.
Vulgar and obscene language includes, but is not limited to, terms commonly called “cussing.” Vulgarity includes vain, casual, or insulting references to sexual behavior, ethnic origin, bodily functions, body parts, religion, etcetera. If you have questions about what is and is not acceptable, please inquire.

General George Washington, August 3, 1776
The General is sorry to be informed that the foolish, and wicked practice, of profane cursing and swearing (a Vice heretofore little known in an American Army) is growing into fashion; he hopes the officers will, by example, as well as influence, endeavour to check it, and that both they, and the men will reflect, that we can have little hopes of the blessing of Heaven on our Arms, if we insult it by our impiety, and folly; added to this, it is a vice so mean and low, without any temptation, that every man of sense, and character, detests and despises it.
Harassment and Intimidation
We welcome all individuals, and promotes the value that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect.
We strongly discourage threats, harassment, bullying, hazing, intimidation, or discrimination. The Staff will make a concerted effort to help Participants and Staff avoid behaviors of this type.
Following are policies that Staff and Participants are expected to uphold.
Violence
Fighting will not be tolerated. Any person that is unable to show restraint and self-control in this area will be dismissed. It is imperative that the environment remains safe for all Participants.
Drugs, Alcohol, and Tobacco
Non-prescription drugs or pharmaceuticals, alcohol, and tobacco products are forbidden. No person may work at the Colonial Camp while under the influence of any intoxicating substances.
Firearms and Weapons
Certain firearms and weapons are included in the program. All firearms and weapons must be declared to the camp director for prior approval. No unapproved or undeclared firearms or weapons may be present at the campsite. Firearms and weapons that are unapproved or undeclared will be confiscated. All firearms and weapons must be used in a manner consistent with program policies and procedures. Violations may result in immediate termination or dismissal.
The Three-Person Rule
No person may be away from the main campsite unless they are in a group of three or more people. No Staff person, adult, Participant, or other individual may be alone with another individual for any reason. Violation is justification for immediate termination or dismissal.
Romance in the Workplace
The workplace is an innappropriate location for romance -- especially in an environment that includes children who are present to develop their character. Staff are required to exclude behavior and language related to workplace romance.
Sexual Harassment
It is expressly forbidden for any sexual behavior to occur during any program. This applies whether occurring at the campsite or elsewhere. Violations may result in immediate termination or dismissal.
