Scissor portraiting is also known as silhouetting. It is named after a French finance minister, Etienne de Silhouette. It is an art form that involves creating the outline of a picture. The designs can be quite detailed, or very simple. Usually the picture is black and the background is white.
Silhouetting may mean a profile of someone. When you make a detailed design, you can call it scherenschnitte. This is German for "scissor cutting."
You can make silhouettes out of any paper using scissors. Research the history of silhouetting. What other things can you make a silhouette? What techniques did you learn to make silhouettes?
